Congregation Rodeph Sholom

7 West 83rd Street

Erected 1929

Records concerning the Rodeph Sholom commission are skeletal at best (a single line in the 1938 publication Design & Craftsmanship in Metals: The Creative Art of Oscar B. Bach, by Matlack Price).  No date is given nor are any specifics mentioned of the nature of the commission, however, depictions of Bach’s mausoleum door designs relate directly to the Ark for Rodeph Sholom dated 1929.  Concurrent with the Rodeph Sholom commission, Bach executed masterful work in bronze and iron for two more of New York City’s sacred spaces, among them Temple Emanu-El in 1929 and The Riverside Church in 1930.
