The pediment of the sconce is a large foliate trefoil with a central protruding knob faced with a four-petaled floral element. The two lobes of the trefoil flanking this knob are complimentary segmented nautilus shells. Below this is the convex reserve, followed by a reverse serpentine shelf that holds two slender candle receptacles with stepped drop pendants. Below this shelf is a central projecting box fronted with organic strapwork, flanked on each side by a meandering leafed vine. A serrated pendant hangs from the bottom center of the sconce. An applied tag on the reverse of the object is stamped Oscar B Bach / New York / Studios Inc. |
